Weight management programsMaintaining a healthy weight is a balancing act! Weight loss can only occur when you burn more calories than you take in. This can only be achieved by reducing the calories from food and drinks and increasing the amount of physical activity you are currently doing. Basically this means having a healthy diet and an exercise program.

As soon as you understand this concept you are then ready to start your weight loss plan. Remember you don’t have to do it alone but it is important that you find the right weight management programs for you.

No matter which program you choose the key to success in losing weight is to commit to permanent changes to your diet and exercise habits.

When it comes to weight management programs, there is a vast array of different ones to choose from. The most important thing is that the program fits into your own lifestyle.

So before you make your decision on the best program for you, ask yourself the following questions:

  • Does it include a wide variety of foods from all the major food groups such as fruit, vegetables, grains, low-fat dairy products, lean protein, nuts and seeds?
  • Does it include food and meal ideas that you like? After all you have to enjoy eating these foods for a lifetime, not just in the short term.
  • Can you find the foods you need in your local grocery store?
  • Does the program fit into your routine and budget?
  • Does it include adequate nutrition and calories to allow you to lose weight safely and successfully?
  • Is regular physical activity a part of the program?

If you find yourself answering no to any of the above questions, that program is not suited to you! So keep searching for more weight management programs that will tick all the boxes.

It is important to understand that losing weight and managing your weight for life is more about your long term nutrition rather than the pounds you lose. By doing this you are focusing on your overall health which will help you to adopt healthy habits to lose weight for life!

Some of you may be a little intimidated when we say that successful weight loss can only be achieved by developing healthy diet and exercise habits. If this makes you nervous don’t worry what we mean is simply eating healthier and being more active!

A lot of people tend to focus more on nutrition when trying to lose weight but being more active is equally as important in any program. The more exercise you do, the more energy and calories you will burn therefore you will lose weight more successfully.

You must choose an activity which you enjoy as you need to do it regularly. Aim for at least 150 minutes a week of moderate exercise or 75 minutes a week of high intensity exercise. This should be spread out over the week.
